Co-Chair: Margaret Jackson
Co-Chair: Dr Rumina Onac
Co-Chair: Matt Sawyer
Margaret has been a GP near Whitby for the best part of 30 years and, now clinically retired, continues to be actively involved in GP training and medical undergraduate teaching in Planetary Health. Other areas of interest include Green Social Prescribing (including the development of a community garden at a GP surgery) and fossil fuel divestment campaigning- acknowledging that this is one of the most powerful tools in moving away from fossil fuel dependency.
Rumina has been a GP in York for 10 years as well as Nimbuscare’s Sustainability Lead. She has produced a website with loads of useful and light-hearted resources at The Greening of Life.
Matt was previously a GP for nearly 20 years, now specialising in planetary health, environmental impact of primary care and carbon footprint assessments. He has produced a carbon footprint calculator and other resources (such as slides, talks, podcasts etc) available at SEE Sustainability.
We have worked on producing information and podcasts in conjunction with the LMC. Guides and resources are available at https://www.yorlmcltd.co.uk/environmentallocalinitiativesgroupsandevents and podcasts here.
The group meets virtually every 6 weeks or so. In between, we use our WhatsApp group and Trello board to share information, opportunities and support to decarbonise. We would love to hear from anybody interested in joining us.
